Case Studies
The Opportunity:
Our client, a consumer-driven health care organization, was in the process of enhancing its member site with additional functionality. They wanted to assess the usability of the additions and make any necessary changes before the new site launched.
Evantage Consulting was asked to lead an efficient round of user testing, and provide advice about how to incorporate usability into our client’s design and development processes.
The Approach:
Evantage met our client’s needs through the following deliverables and activities:
Worked with business users and the development team to determine scope of a prototype to be used in the usability testing process.
A usability test plan. Evantage worked with our client to define key user tasks, outline the steps and guidelines for each task, and create forms for recording observations.
A recruiting profile, to ensure that the participants selected represented an appropriate mix of the target audiences.
Recruited and scheduled respondents in multiple markets.
Conducted twelve 60-minute tests in a one-on-one interview format.
A quick-findings report that enabled the development team to make usability changes between the rounds of testing.
An in-depth report that reviewed each task, identified strengths and weaknesses, ranked usability defects by type and severity and made suggestions for improvement.
Review sessions with the developers and business stakeholders to define how the application should change.
The Results:
Due to the iterative testing approach, where changes were made to the site during the testing process, users were able to complete 100% of tasks by the conclusion of testing. This was a fast and cost-effective means of integrating usability into the site development process.
