Boxes & Arrows Article
Integrating Prototyping into Your Design Process
Boxes & Arrows, the premier Information Architecture Web magazine, invited Fred Beecher to write an article based on his 2009 IA Summit talk discussing how to integrate prototyping into your design process (View a video of Fred’s presentation from the 2009 IA Summit.) In this article, Fred defines the multiple dimensions of prototype fidelity and how to use them as the basis for integrating prototyping into your design process. He looks at several common contexts of design and discusses how to use prototypes of different fidelity to address the typical needs within those contexts.
AxureWorld 2009 Presentation
Managing Requirements & Traceability in Axure
Fred Beecher was invited to present at the first ever AxureWorld, a free virtual conference for users of the Axure RP Pro prototyping tool. Fred’s talk addresses a question he’s heard many times from training clients, “How can I use Axure to consolidate my requirements and UI design?” The presentation describes how Axure is not meant to manage requirements and then discusses the process used for getting around this limitation. Often, this issue is the one thing that stands in the way of an organization successfully integrating Axure and prototyping into their design process.
UIE Virtual Seminar
The Whys, Whats, and Hows of Prototyping
Jared Spool invited Fred Beecher to present an expanded version of his 2009 IA Summit talk about integrating prototyping into a design process as a UIE Virtual Seminar. In this 60-minute session, Fred discusses additional aspects of prototyping integration such as the skills your team needs to do it and the pros and cons of different types of prototyping tools. He also goes into more detail about how to integrate prototyping into specific types of design processes.
